Psalm 10 - Why do You stand afar off, O Lord?
This psalm is about the world.
v1 - This psalm continues the previous one. In the LXX, Psalm 9 and 10 are one psalm. Psalm 9 is about the great tribulation. Psalm 10 starts with the Lord hiding Himself in troublous times, and then talks about the wicked. During the great tribulation there will be many wicked, emulating their leader, the antichrist.
There are 2 questions in this psalm: v1 and v13. The answer to the question in v1 is partly answered in v11. The question in v13 is answered in the same verse.
v2 - We should not be lofty nor crafty. Being lofty will enable us to rationalize oppression of others. If we are crafty we will be caught in our own cleverness. It is better to be straight and simple.
v3 - We shouldn't be impressed when someone boasts of his great ambitions. They may be for some great work that man esteems as a great good. The world honors this. We should do it unto the Lord and look for the reward from the Lord, not men's admiration.
The wicked likes others to envy him. That is his enjoyment. Covetous people are useful to him for his purposes. The world promotes greed.
v4 - The Lord rebuked the Pharisees that they should be like the Queen of Sheba who sought wisdom so much that she came from the end of the earth (South Africa) to hear the wisdom of Solomon ( Matt 12:42). All Christians who enter the kingdom must be like the merchant man, seeking goodly pearls ( Matt 13:45-46; Rev 21:21).
Though the Queen of Sheba was a queen and very rich in gold, she was not too proud to seek wisdom from others.
The wicked has pride of countenance which causes him not to seek. Because he doesn't seek, he thinks there is no use for God ( Matt 22:5).
v5 - It is not a blessing to have your ways always succeed. Because the Lord's judgments are not immediate and not according to outward appearance, he doesn't see them.
The fact that the Lord allows suffering and evil to take place today, is something easy for most people to understand, but it is too high for the lofty minded.
v6 - This deception can happen to the children of God. David said it happened to him ( Ps 30:6).
The world tries to sell this lie with false securities.
v7 - This is the result of thinking he will never fall in the previous verse.Underneath his tongue is something hidden.
vv8-9 - Do not have a hidden motive.
v10 - The previous verses all tell how proud he is, but he puts on a convincing show of humility.
v11 - This refers back to the question in v1. Lord, why do You hide Yourself? To give the wicked the choice to be wicked.
v12 - This and v15 are the only requests in this psalm. (Maybe also v2b.) When the Lord seems to be sleeping, we may need to wake Him up.
v13 - The 2nd question in this psalm. The answer immediately follows.
v14 - The 2nd 1/2 of this verse is one of my favorites.
v17 - a complete contrast to the wicked man. The Lord hears the desire of the heart of the humble, even if they don't speak it.
v18 - This psalm is not about Satan, but about mortal men.

Psalm 10 Why Do You Stand Afar Off, O Lord?
Meter: 8.6.8.6
1 Wherefore is it that Thou, O LORD,
dost stand from us afar?
and wherefore hidest Thou Thyself,
when times so troublous are?
2 The wicked in their loftiness
the lowly poor oppress.
Let them be taken in the snare
of their own craftiness.
3 The wicked of his heart's desire
does talk with boasting great.
He blesses him that's covetous,
him whom the LORD does hate.
4 The wicked, through his pride of face,
does not seek in his thoughts,
says in the counsels of his heart,
There is no place for God.
5 His ways they always do succeed.
Thy judgments from his sight,
they are too high, and all his foes
he puffs at with despite.
6 Within his heart he thus has said,
I shall not movèd be,
and no adversity shall come
in the future to me.
7 His mouth with cursing, fraud, deceit,
is fill'd abundantly;
and underneath his tongue there is
mischief and vanity.
8 In villages' lurking places, (8.1)
he slays the innocent:
Against the lowly and the poor
his hidden eyes are set.
9 He, lion-like, lurks in his den.
He waits the poor to take,
and when he draws him in his net,
his prey he does him make.
10 Himself he humbles very low.
He croucheth down withal,
so that the lowly and the poor
may by his strong ones fall.
11 He thus has said within his heart,
The Lord has quite forgot;
He hides His countenance, and He
forever sees it not.
12 O LORD, do Thou arise; O God,
Lift up your hand, and yet,
The lowly, meek, afflicted ones
You never shall forget.
13 Why is it that the wicked man
thus does the Lord despise?
The truth that God will it require
he in his heart denies. (13.1)
14 Thou hast seen it; for their mischief
and spite Thou wilt repay: ( 14.1)
The wretch commits himself to Thee.
Thou art the orphan's stay.
15 The arm break of the wicked man,
and of the evil one.
Do Thou seek out his wickedness,
until Thou findest none.
16 The LORD is King through ages all,
ev'n to eternity.
The heathen nations from His land
are perish'd utterly.
17 O LORD, of those that humble are,
Thou their desire didst hear.
Thou wilt prepare their heart, and Thou
will cause Your ear to hear
18 to judge the fatherless and those
that are oppressèd sore,
that the mortal man of the earth
may them oppress no more.
8.1. Lit. He sits in the luking places of the villages. In the secret places ...
13.1. Lit. He has said in his heart, You will not require it.
14.1. Lit. You have seen, For You Yourself behold mischief and strife to repay by Your hand.
Matt 12:42 The queen of the south shall rise up in the judgment with this generation, and shall condemn it: for she came from the ends of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon; and behold, {1} a greater than Solomon is here.
13:45 Again, the kingdom of heaven is like unto a man that is a merchant seeking goodly pearls:
46 and having found one pearl of great price, he went and sold all that he had, and bought it.
Rev 21:21 And the twelve gates were twelve pearls; each one of the several gates was of one pearl: and the street of the city was pure gold, as it were transparent glass.
Ps 30:6 And I, in my prosperity, I said I shall never be moved.
7 LORD, by Your favor You made my mountain to stand strong.
You hid Your face from me. I was troubled.
Matt 22:4 Again, he sent forth other servants, saying, Tell them which are bidden, Behold, I have prepared my dinner: my oxen and my fatlings are killed, and all things are ready: come unto the marriage.
5 But they made light of it, and went their ways, one to his farm, another to his merchandise:
