Psalm 31 to the overcomer, a psalm of David of extreme fear
1 In Thee, LORD, I put my trust.
Ashamed ne'er let me be.
Based upon Your righteousness
do Thou deliver me.
2 Thine ear unto me bow down.
Quickly deliver me.
Be my strong Rock for a house
of defense to save me.
3 Because You are my Rock sure
and a defense to me,
therefore, for Your name's sake, Lord,
You lead me and guide me.
4 Pull me out of the net they
laid for me secretly
for You are my inner strength,
to follow Your leading.
5 Into Thy faithful hand Lord,
my spirit I commit.
You have redeemed me, O Lord,
O LORD, Thou God of truth.
6 You've hated the enforcers
of worthless vanities,
but I've to the LORD trusted.
7 Therefore I'll be happy
and rejoice in Thy mercy,
in which mercy You see
my troubles. You've known my soul
in my adversities.
8 And You have not shut up me
in the enemy's hand.
Into a large place freely
You've made my feet to stand.
9 O LORD to me be gracious;
away my eye's wasting
because I am in distress,
my soul and my belly.
10 With sorrow, also with tears,
in these my life is spent,
and with sighing all my years.
Exhausted is my strength
due to my ini-quity,
and my bones waste away.
I am become a shame,
and to my neighbors e'en more,
and to my friends a dread.
They that did see me outdoors,
away from me they fled.
12 As a dead man out of mind,
I have been forgotten.
A useless thing became I,
like a vessel broken.
13 For I have heard of the lies,
defaming by many.
Terror is on every side,
united against me.
To take away my soul's life
together they devised.
14 But I on Thee trusted, LORD.
"You are my God", I cried.
15 My times, Lord, are in Your hand.
Do Thou deliver me
out from the enemy's hand
and those pursuing me.
16 Make Your face to shine on me,
upon Thy servant, Lord.
Do save me in Your mercy.
Let me not be shamed, Lord.
17 LORD, let me not be ashamed
for I have called on Thee.
Let the wicked be ashamed
in Sheol silent be.
18 Let lying lips become dumb,
which speak insolently
lies against the righteous ones
with contempt and proudly.
19 O How great is Thy goodness
which You've laid up for them
who fear Thee and hide in Thee
before the sons of men.
20 In secret of Your presence
from the bindings of men,
You will hide them, You'll keep them
within Your pavilion
from tongues that are arguing.
21 Blessed be the LORD for
His wondrous mercy to me
in a city secure.
22 And I, I said in my haste,
"I'm cut off 'fore Thine eyes".
Yet You listened to my voice
when unto Thee I cried.
23 Love the LORD all ye His saints.
LORD preserves the faithful,
and to those who deal proudly
He will repay in full.
24 Be of good courage, endure,
and your heart He'll strengthen,
all ye that wait for the LORD
in your tribulation.
